Roskilde Festival. The place where it all began.
As soon as you get to the festival campsite, that unmistakable sound hits you. The smell does, too. When you walk between the tents, nearly every group is turning up. It really is a sight to behold.
Back in 2014, our founders built the original SOUNDBOKS to power their campsite’s parties. Fast forward to today and some 12,000 camps use our speakers to do the same. But why are SOUNDBOKS so popular for these party people? We went back to our spiritual home and asked them ourselves.
Designed With The Campsite In Mind
You have to have a SOUNDBOKS to compete with other camps.

This one might seem obvious, but the fact seemingly every camp uses one is a big reason. Our speakers are loud. Like really, really loud. If all you’ve got is a pill speaker, good luck getting the party started. You won’t hear a thing amongst the campsite’s chaos.
Anyone in the camp can and knows how to use one.

Simplicity is key. Whether you’re setting up, selecting songs, or swapping out the battery, we’ve made it as easy as possible. All you have to do is connect using Bluetooth, turn up the volume knob to 11, and press play.
We thought it was dead and gone when we found it swimming in a pool in our tent. It survived.

The original SOUNDBOKS died because someone spilled a beer into it. Our founders swore an oath to never let either happen again. Both the SOUNDBOKS 4 and SOUNDBOKS Go are designed to be splash- and shockproof, making them as durable as any speaker out there. It’ll take way more than a Tuborg to stop the party.
More Than Just A Speaker
It’s not just seeing our speakers in action that got us excited. The people turning up did too. These legends got seriously creative, using their SOUNDBOKS as more than just speakers.
The mic is used for important announcements, and more importantly, karaoke.

Sometimes, the most memorable performances at Roskilde happen away from the Orange Stage. Campsite DJs blend bangers into the early hours and karaoke parties create the perfect pregame. Being able to plug a microphone into the SOUNDBOKS 4 makes sharing important info with your crew super simple too.
This was the only surface that worked for our makeup.

Getting ready in a sweaty, muddy campsite is tough at the best of times. Thankfully, our speakers also act as reliable, durable surfaces. Creating a mobile ‘dulle’ station made glamming up for a big day of dancing way easier.
The Soundtrack To Socializing
The obvious reason why the people of Roskilde Festival love a SOUNDBOKS is because it brings them together. Whatever they used it for, our speakers acted as social lube, starting conversations, getting random people to interact with each other, and helping make memories.
We bought this as a group and painted it pink just like our dorm’s kitchen.

Plenty of groups of friends pooled their money to buy a SOUNDBOKS together. These speakers were covered in stickers or customized in cool ways to represent the group. We also spoke to people whose friends, family, and brother’s friend’s partners had loaned them their speakers to use for the week. That’s some trust right there.
We asked random people from the campsite to add their drawings as well.

But beyond showing off your own style, they also became a reason to chat to anyone that passed by. Check out group above. Strangers became artists, leaving their mark and adding to the camp’s experience. Talk about a hygge conversation starter.
Our speakers are built to turn up any camp party to the next level. But beyond that, they’re a reason why friends come together to create lifelong memories. Next festival you go to, keep your ears peeled - you’ll know a SOUNDBOKS when you hear it.
